How do I simulate and debug the state machine diagrams graphically using the state machine editor in Active HDL?

Solution

When simulating a design that contains state diagrams, you can monitor what the current state of each machine is. The current states are displayed in yellow instead of the default green color.

You can also control the simulation directly from the diagram by clicking the Trace Over Transition button in the toolbar at the top of the diagram. That way, the simulation will run long enough to move the machine to the next state.

Also, you are able to set break points directly on the State Diagram by right-clicking on a state and make proper selections.
